Speeding Truck Kills Wild Elephant on NH49 in Keonjhar District

Keonjhar: A wild elephant was killed when it was hit by a speeding truck while crossing National Highway-49 in Keonjhar district on Tuesday night. Forest officials seized the truck and arrested its driver.

The iron-loaded truck was travelling to Pallahara from Keonjhar. The truck hit the wild tusker while it was crossing the NH49 near Kantabahal.

The elephant was seriously injured. But it managed to escape to a nearby farm, where it succumbed to its injuries.

It is suspected that the ill-fated wild elephant was coming from the Suakati area. According to the driver of the accident-causing truck, the elephant suddenly appeared from the right side of the road and collided with the truck.
