State Funeral for Ratan Tata; Day of Mourning in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Ratan Tata would be accorded a state funeral, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Shinde also declared a day of mourning in Maharashtra to pay tribute to the legendary Indian industrialist and philanthropist.

To enable people to pay their last respects to the departed soul, Ratan Tata’s body will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai’s Nariman Point from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday.

Then his body will be taken to the Worli crematorium for last rites.

Ratan Tata, who transformed the Tata Group into a globally renowned conglomerate, died at age 86 in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday night.

A statement from CM Eknath Shinde’s office stated that the National Tricolour on government offices in Maharashtra will at half-mast on October 10 as a sign of mourning for the demise of Ratan Tata. There will be no entertainment events on Thursday, the statement said.
