Supreme Court Denies to Entertain Hemant Soren’s Bail Plea, Raps for “Suppressing Facts”

New Delhi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will not be able to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 as he had to withdraw an interim bail plea filed before the Supreme Court after questions over non-disclosure of facts, specifically that a Ranchi special court had taken cognisance of the complaint against him.

He was arrested by the ED in January in a money laundering case.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Hemant Soren, withdrew the application after an irate apex court warned that it would otherwise dismiss the plea.

Now it has become clear that the JMM leader will not be able to campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that Hemant Soren as Chief Minister, ran a scheme to manipulate records, via fictitious transactions and forged documents, to acquire land worth several crore rupees.
