T20 World Cup-Winning Indian Team to be Felicitated at Wankhede Stadium; Open Bus Roadshow Also Planned

New Delhi: The triumphant Indian cricket team, fresh off their T20 World Cup victory, will participate in an open bus roadshow followed by a grand felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

The team is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi early Thursday morning around 6:20 am, flying in from Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport on a special Air India flight with the call sign AIC24WC — Air India Champions 24 World Cup.

India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, announced on social media, “Let’s celebrate this win with a victory parade at Marine Drive & Wankhede on July 4th from 5:00 pm onwards.”

The team’s departure from Barbados was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl. However, the squad, support staff, players’ families, board officials, and accompanying Indian media finally departed early Wednesday morning at 4:50 am local time on the BCCI-arranged chartered flight.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed, “The team has left from Barbados on a special Air India flight. Indian journalists, BCCI president Roger Binny, and secretary Jay Shah are also on board, overseeing all arrangements.”

Upon arrival in Delhi, the team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11 am. Post this meeting, they will fly to Mumbai for the scheduled events.

“There will be a roadshow from Nariman Point in an open bus, followed by a felicitation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium. The players will be honoured with the announced prize money of Rs 125 crore,” Shukla added.

Final preparations are being handled by local authorities and cricket officials, with the open bus roadshow starting from Nariman Point and concluding at Wankhede Stadium, the headquarters of the BCCI.

This celebration mirrors the roadshow held 14 years ago when MS Dhoni’s team triumphed over Pakistan in the 2007 World T20 final in South Africa.

Rohit Sharma led his team to victory with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final held on Saturday at Kensington Oval.
