Bhubaneswar: After a long gap of almost two decades, a Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) was spotted in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Through a post on X, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda informed it by saying, “Happy to share that one Tiger has been camera trapped in Sundargarh District almost after two decades. Tiger cell of NTCA confirmed it to have migrated out of Sanjay Dubri TR. Must have travelled few hundred miles to carve out its new territory in Odisha.”

The tiger has come from Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh after travelling several hundred miles to reach Odisha to find out a new territory of its own.
Recent tiger census in Odisha had revealed that there were 30 adult tigers and eight cubs in the state.
According to the census, Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district has 27 adult tigers (14 females and 13 males) and eight cubs.
One adult male tiger each was sighted in the Hirakud Wildlife Division, Paralakhemndi Territorial Forest Division and Greater Similipal Tiger Landscape, stated the census report.
