Traffic ASIs Cannot Collect Fines & Issue E-Challans, Odisha STAs New Directive

Bhubaneswar: Odisha STA in a new directive on Tuesday has stated that the government has withdrawn the power of Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), Traffic to collect fines and issue E-challans under the Motor Vehicles Act in Odisha.

According to sources, the STA came up with this new directive following allegations that the traffic policemen were collecting fines illegally from bikers.

In a letter to all the regional and Additional Regional Transport Officers, the STA mentioned that its previous order which enabled the traffic ASIs to collect fines has been withdrawn.

On September 13, the STA had directed that the traffic ASIs could deduct fines and issue e-challans to penalize traffic rule violators.
