Ukraine Uses AI-Generated Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

Ukraine’s foreign ministry has started using a virtual artificial intelligence spokesperson to provide updates on various issues, including the ongoing war with Russia.

A video of the virtual spokesperson has been posted by the ministry on X with the writing, “Meet Victoria Shi – a digital representative of the MFA of Ukraine, created using AI to provide timely updates on consular affairs! For the first time in history, the MFA of Ukraine has presented a digital persona that will officially comment for the media.”

The decision to use AI-generated virtual spokespersons is meant to cut down time and resources during the wartime. “Real diplomats will be able to be more effective and focus on other tasks of providing assistance to citizens,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba told the Post.
