Heavy Rains Lash Uttarakhand: Ganga River Swells, Evacuations Ordered

Dehradun: After heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, the water level of the Ganga River surged in Rishikesh on Sunday, reaching the Triveni Ghat Aarti Sthal. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) issued an alert, advising travellers to avoid the ghats at night.

Lokjeet, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Dehradun informed about the ongoing coordination with the administration and displacement of residents near the river banks.

The Meteorological Centre in Uttarakhand forecasted heavy rainfall across the state until July 10, with the IMD predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in various regions, including isolated areas in the Kumaon region and districts like Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pauri.

Further heavy rains are expected in Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, and Uttarkashi on Sunday, with thunderstorms and intense spells anticipated on July 8-9 statewide. The weather alert extends to districts like Tehri, Pauri, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital, and Champawat for July 10.

In light of these forecasts, the state government urged residents to stay safe and cautious, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directing district magistrates to maintain high alert status.
