New Delhi: Uttarakhand government is planning to become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code next week, reported India Today.
The Uttarakhand Assembly may pass the Uniform Civil Code bill in a special session of the Assembly to be called in the week after Diwali.
In a few days, a committee headed by Justice (retired) Ranjana Desai would submit a report on the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
In June this year, Retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, a member of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft committee said that the drafting of the Uniform Civil Code for Uttarakhand was complete and will be submitted to the state government soon.
Gujarat government is also planning to implement the Uniform Civil Code before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to become the second state to implement it.
