Villagers Lynch 5 Members of Family in Chhattisgarh Alleging ‘Witchcraft’

Raipur: Superstitious villagers lynched five members of a family, including two couples on suspicion of practising witchcraft at Itkal village under the Konta police station limits in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday.

Police have arrested five persons of the village in relation to the crime. There might be more arrests.

The victims were identified as Mausam Kanna (34), his wife Mausam Biri, Mausam Buchcha (34), his wife Mausam Arjo (32), and another woman Karka Lachhi (43).

The victims were brutally beaten up with lathis and all of them died on the spot.

In a similar incident on September 12, four members of a family, including an infant boy, were allegedly killed on the suspicion of witchcraft in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district.
