Wild Elephant Electrocuted to Death in Sambalpur Dist

Sambalpur: The body of a wild elephant was discovered at Basiapada village under Sambalpur Sadar Forest Range in the wee hours of Monday.

According to sources, the elephant entered the village to eat paddy stock and it came in contact with high-voltage live wires while trying to break into a house. The tusker was electrocuted to death on the spot.

After receiving information, Forest Department officials rushed to the spot to initiate an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the elephant’s death.

According to locals, this stray wild elephant was roaming alone in the area. It used to terrify the locals by entering the village and agricultural fields at night. This elephant allegedly

trampled an elderly man to death in the past.
