Wild Elephant Hit by Speeding Train Dies in Assam

Guwahati: An adult male elephant was hit by the Silchar-bound Kanchanjunga Express at Tegheria near Jagiroad Railway Station in Assam’s Morigaon district on Wednesday. The wild elephant died of the injuries.

The dead elephant along with another tusker were separated from their herd. They were crossing the railway track,w hen the mishap occurred.

An adult male elephant died after the speeding train hit the animal while the other elephant managed to cross the tracks unhurt.

Railway personnel and locals removed the elephant carcass from the tracks in time, so there was no disruption or delay in train services.

Forest officials and veterinarians have reached the spot to conduct post-mortem of the dead elephant.

Assam has the second-highest elephant population in the country after Karnataka.
