Patna: Prashant Kishor, political strategist-turned-activist, has announced that his party, Jan Suraaj, would lift the liquor ban in Bihar “within an hour” of coming to power.
Speaking to the media ahead of the party’s October 2 launch, Kishor criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s prohibition law, calling it a “sham” and ineffective.
He argued that the ban has led to illegal alcohol deliveries and deprived the state of ₹20,000 crore in potential excise revenue. Kishor also accused politicians and bureaucrats of profiting from the illegal liquor trade.
Highlighting his commitment to “politics of merit,” the 47-year-old leader stated that he won’t shy away from opposing prohibition, unlike other parties that fear losing women’s votes. He also held Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad, Congress, and BJP responsible for Bihar’s current state.
Kishor confirmed that Jan Suraaj will contest all 243 seats in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, marking a full-scale entry into state politics.
