Mumbai: A woman resident doctor at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital was allegedly assaulted by a patient and his relatives, who were all in an inebriated state, in the early hours of Sunday, according to fellow doctors. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM while the doctor was on duty.
The patient, who had facial injuries, arrived at the hospital with a group of 5-6 men. While receiving treatment, the group reportedly abused, threatened and physically assaulted the doctor, leading to her sustaining injuries as she defended herself. The assailants fled the scene after the attack.
Dr Akshay More, head of BMC MARD, expressed concern over the incident, noting that it exposes serious security lapses. The doctor has since provided a statement to the Sion Police, where a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered.
The BMC MARD, representing resident doctors at Sion Hospital, condemned the incident, calling for urgent measures to ensure the safety of medical professionals in all hospitals.
