Wrestler Aman Sehrawat With Bronze Creates History; Becomes India’s Youngest Olympic Medallist

By winning the 57kg free-style category bronze medal less than a month after his 21st birthday, wrestler Aman Sehrawat became India’s youngest ever Olympic medallist. It was his debut Olympics. He turned 21 on July 16.

In the match for bronze medal, he registered a commanding 13-5 win over Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz.

Before him, badminton star P V Sindhu was India’s youngest Olympic medal winner after getting silver in the 2016 Olympic Games at the age of 21 years, one month and 14 days.

With Sehrawat’s bronze India won its sixth medal. The country has so far secured one silver and five bronze.

Sehrawat is the U-23 world champion. He was only Indian male wrestler to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
