Wrestlers halt Protest till June 15 Following Assurance from Sports Minister

New Delhi: After almost one and a half month-long protests, top wrestlers of the country decided to discontinue their protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh till June 15. They took this decision after a six-hour-long meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday. This meeting with the Union sports minister followed their meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday.

Wrestlers’ decided to discontinue their protests till June 15, the date by which Delhi Police is to complete its investigation against the WFI chief.

Talking to the media Anurag Thakur said there will be a proper investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and he would not be allowed to participate in the WFI elections to be held at the end of this month.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia, however, said, if no action was no action taken against Brij Bhushan Singh then they would restart their protest. He also added that all decisions taken will be put before the other wrestlers, Khap leaders, and supporters of their agitation. He reiterated that if no action is taken by June 15, they will resume their protest agitation. “We have requested that all FIRs against wrestlers should be taken back and he has agreed to it”, Punia added.
