Chennai: Ford Motor is planning to reopen a manufacturing plant for exports in Tamil Nadu, India. It is to re-enter the Indian market after exiting from it three years ago.
According to Ford, it has submitted a letter of intent to the Tamil Nadu government regarding its plans to restart the plant. Two days back, Tamil Nadu CM said that the two were holding talks to restart manufacturing in the state for exports.
Ford stopped producing cars in India for domestic sale in 2021. “The move will see the facility re-purposed to focus on manufacturing for export to global markets,” Ford said in a statement.
The cars that Ford plans to make at the Tamil Nadu plant will be announced later, the company said in its statement.
