Now Walmart Prefers to Import More Goods to US from India Reducing Dependence on China

New Delhi: The World’s largest retail chain Walmart has started putting thrust on India for its imports to the US. Walmart is reducing its imports from China and importing more goods to the US from India, reported Reuters.

Between January and August this year, around 25 per cent of Walmart’s US imports were from India in comparison to just 2 per cent in 2018.

In 2018, China contributed 80 per cent of Walmart’s imports to the US. It has come down to 60 per cent. Yet China is still Walmart’s biggest country for importing goods.

Walmart is exploring its growth in India since 2018 when it bought a 77 per cent stake in Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart. In 2020, Walmart committed to importing $10 billion worth of goods from India each year by 2027. Now Walmart is importing around $3 billion worth of goods from India each year.

The goods imported by Walmart from India range from toys and electronics to bicycles and pharmaceuticals.
