Online Sale of Fake Ayodhya Ram Temple Prasad, Amazon Initiates Action Against Sellers

New Delhi: Following a complaint from the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) regarding the online sale of fake Ayodhya Ram Temple Prasad, e-commerce giant Amazon removed the sales options of the said sweets and initiated action against the sellers.

Earlier the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) had brought fraudulent trade practices involving the sale of sweets under the guise of prasad from Ram Mandir in Ayodhya to the notice of the CCPA.

In its notice, the CCPA had ordered Amazon for response within seven days with a warning of action under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, if the company failed to provide any response within the stipulated time.

The items that were being sold on Amazon as Ayodhya Ram Mandir Prasad included Ayodhya Ram Mandir Prasad- Raghupati Ghee Ladoo, Ayodhya Ram Mandir Prasad, Khoya Khobi Ladoo, Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad – Desi Cow Milk Peda’.

These sweets had no links with the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. So, these online sales were illegal as the Consumer Protection Act bans ‘misleading advertisements’ that falsely describe such a product or service, or gives a false guarantee to, or is likely to mislead consumers as to the nature, substance, quantity, or quality of such a product or service.
