Set UPI Lite in BHIM App to pay without PIN

New Delhi: The United Payments Interface (UPI) was launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016. Recently the organization has introduced UPI Lite to make low-value transactions secure and fast.

This is an on-device wallet facility. With this, users can do low-value transactions in real-time without using UPI PIN. However, the PIN will still be required while making regular UPI payments.

At present, UPI Lite is available for customers of only eight banks including the BHIM app, which include Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank. . How to set the UPI light in the BHIM app?

Step 1: Download and install the BHIM app on your Android phone or iPhone.

Step 2: Log in to the app and add a bank account for UPI transactions.

Step 3: Scroll down and tap on the UPI Lite banner.

Step 4: Now tap on Enable Now button.

Step 5: Tap on all the details and then on the Enable Now button.

Step 6: Now, you will be asked to add Rs 2,000 to your UPI Lite e-wallet.

Step 7: Select the bank account from which you want to transfer the money.

Step 8: Tap on Enable UPI Lite button.

Step 9: Enter your UPI PIN. Once the money is transferred, your UPI Lite e-Wallet will be activated.

How is UPI Lite different?

Several factors make UPI Lite different from regular UPI transactions. Firstly, the upper limit for UPI transactions is Rs 2 lakh while the limit for UPI Lite transactions is Rs 200. UPI transactions are directly linked to your bank accounts, whereas UPI Lite transactions are best on e-wallets. Therefore, UPI Lite users can keep only Rs 2,000 in their wallets. Apart from this, UPI can be used by customers of more than 100 banks. On the other hand, the use of UPI Lite is limited to only 8 banks. Also, UPI can be used for both sending and receiving money. On the other hand, UPI Lite can only be used to send money.
