New Delhi: Marriages are grand in India and the country is expected to generate Rs 5.9 lakh crore in business during the upcoming wedding season, according to a recent study by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
It is estimated that around 48 lakh weddings will take place across the country in November and December 2024. It will lead to a great boost in trading of wedding-related goods and services.
This year’s wedding season is expected to surpass last year’s figures. In 2023, there were 35 lakh weddings that generated business of Rs 4.25 lakh crore. This year there are 18 auspicious wedding dates in these two months while in 2023 there were 11. This may increase the number of marriages.
As per an estimate, Delhi may have around 4.5 lakh weddings generating Rs 1.5 lakh crore to the total business.
According to CAIT National President, BC Bhartia, the wedding expenses range from Rs 3 lakh per wedding for 10 lakh ceremonies, to over Rs 1 crore for high-end weddings. The wedding season increases demand for clothing, jewellery, electronics, food items, services like banquet halls, event management, catering, transportation, and photography. There is also increased expenditure on social media services for wedding coverage.
The second phase of the wedding season will be in mid-January 2025, adding to the business.
