Lucknow: A 17-year-old girl lost one hand and both her legs in Bareili of Uttar Pradesh as a youth threw her before a train as she resisted to his sexual harassment.
She is admitted to a hospital in critical condition.
This gruesome incident took place in the CB Ganj area of Bareilly on Tuesday.
One person was arrested in relation to the case. Three policemen were suspended for negligence.
The victim was targeted by a youth named Vijay Maurya, while she was returning from her coaching centre Tuesday evening. It is alleged when the girl tried to escape from the clutches of the assailant, she was thrown before a running train.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Maurya was booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 342 (forcibly restraining someone), 504 (intentional insult), 354 D (outraging the modesty of a woman), and 326 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous means) of the IPC and also sections of the POCSO Act, police said.
It was originally alleged that two people threw the girl before the train, but the FIR names only Maurya, while another person has been named as a witness to the incident.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the matter and pledged an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the girl’s family.
