Koraput: Thirteen persons including three women were arrested on Thursday for their involvement in the abduction of a rice mill owner, A Ramesh Patra in Odisha’s Koraput district.
Patra was rescued from R Maliguda under the Sunabeda police station limits. The kingpin of the gang of kidnappers was identified as Jeet Mahuria.
The police have seized two cars, a bike, three pistols, 12 live bullets, two other weapons and Rs 24.85 lakh cash from the arrested persons.
According to the Koraput police, the abductors had demanded Rs 90 lakh ransom to release the rice mill owner. Later they agreed for Rs 70 lakh.
Last Friday night, while Ramesh Patra, owner of SLVN Modern rice mill in Perahandi was returning home in his car, the miscreants intercepted him near Perahandi square and abducted him.
When he did not reach home, his family lodged a complaint at the Borigumma police station. Police rescued Patra on Sunday.
