Katihar: In a horrifying incident in Bihar’s Katihar district, a 40-year-old school teacher was allegedly stabbed to death by a stalker while on her way to school. The attacker reportedly set her body on fire to destroy evidence, police said on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Kumari Yashoda, who worked as a Shiksha Sevak at Pakariya Primary School, was found near her residence in Pakariya Lakshmipur. According to locals, an unidentified man attacked Yashoda with a knife and set her body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
“The woman teacher was killed by stabbing and later the accused set the body on fire to destroy evidence,” said Jitendra Kumar, Katihar Superintendent of Police. “A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to investigate this horrific crime. We expect to apprehend the culprit soon.”
Upendra Prasad, the block education officer (BEO), confirmed Yashoda’s role at the school. “She was a dedicated Shiksha Sevak who ensured student attendance and provided quality education,” he said. “A team of officials visited the school after this shocking incident.”
While a formal FIR is yet to be lodged, police have identified a suspect and are confident of a quick arrest. Locals claim the accused is village contractor Halchal Kumar, with whom Yashoda may have had a prior altercation.
Meanwhile, this incident sparked outrage among teachers in Bihar, who demanded improved security measures, especially considering their early morning work schedules to meet the 6 am deadline.
