Civil Services Aspirant Becomes Burglar, Blackmailer; Arrested for Blackmailing Couple With Their Private Video

Raipur: A 28-year-old man, who failed to clear civil services exams even after multiple attempts, was arrested in Durg district of Chhattisgarh for trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from a couple after shooting their intimate video.

According to police sources, the accused identified as Vinay Kumar Sahu had entered the couple’s house in May with an intention of committing burglary. But he recorded the couple’s intimate moments in bedroom using his mobile phone.

Later the accused blackmailed the couple and tried to extort Rs 10 lakh for not making their video public.

The accused was arrested on June 25 following a complaint lodged by the couple.

Arrested Sahu told the police that he had burgled the couple’s house twice earlier and had sneaked in again on May 5 with the same intention. But instead of stealing something, he allegedly recorded the intimate moments of the couple on his phone. A few days later, he sent the video to the couple and started blackmailing them by demanding Rs 10 lakh for not making it viral.

Sahu is an engineering graduate, who was preparing for civil services exams. But he failed to get a government job. To meet his needs, Sahu started stealing mobile phones and other articles in his own locality.

The accused was booked under Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of the IPC.
