Dalit Groom Assaulted, Humiliated for Riding Horse in Wedding Procession in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: A Dalit groom was assaulted, abused and humiliated by a group of persons in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district for riding a horse in his wedding procession. Gujarat police have arrested four persons in relation to the incident. This attack on the Dalit groom happened at Chadasana village under Gandhinagar district on Monday evening. A group of persons abused the Dalit groom Vikas Chavda with casteist abuses and attacked him as he was riding a horse as part of his wedding procession.

The groom’s procession on the way to the bride’s house in the village was intercepted by the miscreants, who slapped him and dragged him down from the horse. The attackers claimed that only members of higher castes were allowed to ride horses.

The groom was forced to ride a four-wheeler to the bride’s house for the wedding. The four arrested persons belong to the OBC community.
