Fake Video of Asaram Bapu Rape Victim’s Father on Social Media

Lucknow: Additional police security was provided to the father of a rape victim when a fake video showing him apologising for “making false allegations” against jailed godman Asaram Bapu made rounds on social media.

According to police sources, an FIR has been lodged against one Anil Kumar Sharma, from whose social media account the fake video was allegedly posted. It is suspected that the video was uploaded from a fake account. Efforts are on to identify the individual who has posted the video on the social media handle with the name Anil Kumar Sharma and the persons involved in circulating the video on social media platforms with mala fide intentions.

In his complaint before the police at Kotwali police station in Shajahanpur on Wednesday evening, the father of the rape victim alleged that it’s not him in the video which is doing the rounds on social media.

It is alleged that this fake video was intentionally circulated by the followers of Asaram to malign the victim and her family. The video shows a man saying,”Please forgive us. My daughter had made false allegations.”

The caption of this fake video states that the man in the video is the father of the girl who was raped by Asaram Bapu in 2013 at his Jodhpur ashram when she was 16 years old.

Following the recent developments, the family was provided additional police security including a police gunner deputed to the victim’s father.

In 2018, a Jodhpur court convicted the self-styled Godman Asaram in the rape case and he was awarded life imprisonment.
