Kendrapara: Bibhas Mazumdar, the Food Safety Officer posted in the office of Chief District Medical Officer, Kendrapara, was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officials while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a local businessman for issuance of a license.
As per reports, Mazumdar had conducted a surprise raid at the properties of the Poly Traders Shop owner on August 8 and instructed him to apply for a license.
Later Mazumdar demanded Rs 5,000 to issue the license. The complainant reported the incident to the Vigilance department and a trap was laid.
Mazumdar was apprehended while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in front of Akhandalamani Marble shop from the complainant.
The entire marked-up money was recovered from his possession. Vigilance officials also took up searches at locations linked to Mazumdar. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
