IAS Officer’s Wife Elopes With Gangster, Commits Suicide After Return, Husband Refuses to Take Body

Ahmedabad: The 45-year-old wife of an IAS officer, who reportedly eloped with a gangster nine months ago tried to end her life on Saturday after returning to her husband’s home in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, reported NDTV.

As per reports, the woman, Surya Jay, died during treatment on Sunday. The woman’s husband has refused to take her body.

Her husband, Ranjeet Kumar is a secretary at Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission. According to police sources, the IAS officer had ordered his domestic staff that his wife should not be allowed into his house. The woman was involved in a child kidnap case.

As per reports, Tamil Nadu police is searching for Surya in the kidnapping case of a 14-year-old boy in Madurai. She was suspected to have reached her IAS husband’s home to evade arrest.

NDTV quoted Kumar’s advocate, Hitesh Gupta to report that the couple had separated in 2023 and were heading for a divorce.

Upset at not being allowed in the house, she ingested poison and called up the ambulance helpline number. Police have recovered a suicide note in Tamil.

The woman’s name featured in a case with her rumoured gangster boyfriend which relates to an alleged kidnapping of a boy on July 11 and demand of a ransom of Rs 2 crore. Madurai police managed to rescue the boy. The cops had launched a manhunt for those involved, including Surya.
