“If you don’t talk to me, I will kill you,” first threats and then murder.

Dumka: A man was allegedly set fire on a girl in Jharkhand’s Dumka district after his overtures were not responded to. A 19-year-old girl, a class 12 student, was admitted to Fulo Zano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka with 90% burns and critical condition. She was later referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for better treatment, police said.

Dumka Town police station in-charge Nitish Kumar told PTI, “The girl died during treatment at RMS, Ranchi at around 2.30 am on Sunday. The accused Shahrukh has been arrested in this case. The girl was sleeping in her house on Tuesday morning. According to information, Shahrukh is accused of pouring petrol on the girl from the window and setting her on fire. The accused is a construction worker, Mr. Kumar told to PTI.

According to the statement given to the executive magistrate, the girl said that the accused called her on her mobile about 10 days ago to become his friend. On Monday around 8 pm, he called me again and told me that he will kill me if I don’t talk to him. I informed my father about the threat after which he assured me that he would speak to the man’s family on Tuesday. After our dinner, we went to bed. I was sleeping in another room.

Tuesday morning I felt pain in my back and smelled something burning. I opened my eyes and saw him running away. I started screaming in pain and went to my father’s room. My parents caught fire. While going to the hospital, the girl expressed this with great difficulty. Now the police are investigating the incident.
