Jail Warder Gets 10-yr RI for Supplying Intoxicants to Prisoners

Ludhiana: A jail warder, Jagroop Singh was sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for supplying drugs to jail inmates by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge Shiv Mohan Garg in Punjab’s Ludhiana. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convicted warder.

While posted at the Sutlej block of the Central Jail, Ludhiana, on February 20, 2018, Singh was nabbed by the police while he was trying to smuggle intoxicant tablets inside the jail to supply them to the prisoners.

A total of 292 intoxicating tablets, which he had hidden in his turban, were seized from his possession.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 22 of the NDPS Act. The court after going through the evidence and hearing arguments, found the warder guilty.
