Bengaluru: Tunga 2, a police dog saved a woman’s life as well as tracked down the suspected murderer after running eight kilometres in heavy rain.
On Thursday, when a man’s body was found on Bada Road near the petrol pump in Santhebennur, Channagiri taluk, Tunga 2 and her handler, constable Shafi, were deployed to track down the killer. The doberman sniffed the jacket of the victim and started running.
Tunga 2 and her handler ran non-stop for eight kilometers till the police dog stopped at a house where a huge commotion was heard.
The police force found a man beating a woman mercilessly inside the house. The alertness of Tunga 2 prevented the death of the woman, identified as Roopa.
The police arrested the man named Rangaswamy. Investigation revealed that he was the murderer who the police was searching for.
After killing Santosh, 33, Rangaswami had reached his home to kill his wife Roopa. He suspected that Santosh had an illicit affair with his wife. Roopa’s murder was prevented in the nick of time due to Tunga 2. Roopa has been admitted to Santhebennur Community Hospital.
