2 Contract Killers Arrested For Murder Of Businessman In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Two contract killers were arrested by the Dhenkanal police in connection with the alleged murder of businessman Nirakar Sahu. The motive behind the murder is believed to be revenge, as Nirakar and his associates had killed Dibyadarshan Mahanta, the father of one of the contract killers, in 2021.

Dhenkanal SP Gyana Ranjan Mohapatra revealed that Dibyadarshan Mahanta had hired Rakesh Nath and Deba Barji to execute the murder. Rakesh and Deba, who hailed from Alatuma village and Dumadihi in Mayurbhanj district, respectively, were paid Rs 6 lakh for the job.

After Nirakar was released on bail on September 27, Rakesh and Deba shot him near a railway overbridge in Alatuma. Dibyadarshan was arrested on October 26, and he confessed to hiring the contract killers.

Acting on reliable information, the police traced Rakesh and Deba to Jamada and arrested them on Monday. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the investigation, and the case is now expected to close soon.
