Shopkeeper Sells Fake Jewellery Worth Rs 300 For Rs 6 Crore to US Woman In Jaipur

Jaipur: A woman from the US was conned by a jeweller in Rajasthan’s Jaipur as she was sold artificial jewellery worth Rs 300 for Rs 6 crore.

The victim, Cherish, a US citizen, bought the silver jewellery with gold polish from a jewellery shop at Johri Bazaar in Rajasthan’s Jaipur.

When she displayed the jewellery at an exhibition in the US in April 2024, it was found to be fake. Cherish flew to India to confront jewellery shop owner Gaurav Soni, who dismissed her allegations.

Following this, the US woman filed a police complaint in Jaipur and also sought intervention of the US embassy. The embassy has urged the Jaipur Police to investigate the matter.

The woman in her police complaint has informed that she came in contact with Gaurav Soni in 2022 through Instagram. During the past two years, she bought cheap artificial jewellery from him by paying Rs 6 crore.

Gaurav and his father Rajendra Soni have absconded after the US woman lodged the complaint against them. Rajasthan police have formed special teams to arrest them.
