Superstitious Men Burn Woman Alive Alleging Her to Be Practising Black Magic In Telangana

Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a woman was burnt alive by persons who suspected her to be practising black magic in Telangana’s Medak district.

The victim was thrashed and set ablaze at her home in Katrial village of Ramayampet Mandal on Thursday (October 3) night.

The victim was identified as D Muttava. The superstitious attackers poured petrol on her and torched her.

Her son and daughter-in-law managed to escape out of the house. Hearing their shout, neighbours rushed to the house and doused the fire. Muttava died of burn injuries while being rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad.

Police have arrested three of the accused. According to the victim’s son, six people were involved in the lethal attack on his mother.

A relative of the accused had taken ill and they blamed Muttava’s alleged black magic for it.

In rural areas of Telangana, superstitious people burn alive or hack women to death by alleging them to be practising ‘Bhanamati’ (a form of black magic). In most of the cases, the victims were women.
