Two Including A Teacher Nabbed from Similipal Tiger Reserve for Hunting Porcupine to Sell Its Meat

Baripada: Two poachers have been arrested from the Similipal Tiger Reserve of Mayurbhanj district for illegal hunting, and trade of Indian porcupine meat.

The arrested duo was identified as Chamtu Hembram (40) and Baidhar Soren (54) of Alubani village under the Kuliana police station.

Baidhar Soren is reportedly posted as the in-charge headmaster of Haldibani UP School under Samakhunta Tahasil.

The accused were booked under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, for hunting an Indian porcupine, a Schedule-1 animal.

According to reports, on July 16 forest officials got information that two men hunted an Indian porcupine, a Schedule-1 animal. Both were immediately nabbed. A countrymade gun, bow and arrows, porcupine meat, 88 porcupine quills were seized from their possession.
