Ujjain Horror: Passersby Film Daylight Rape, Video Goes Viral, Accused Nabbed

Ujjain: A woman was raped in broad daylight on a busy road in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, as passersby chose to film the assault instead of helping.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday in the Koyla Phatak area, was recorded by an eyewitness and later posted on social media, where it quickly went viral.

The accused, identified as Lokesh, was arrested after police used the viral video to trace him. According to authorities, the victim, a ragpicker, was lured by Lokesh under the pretext of marriage. He convinced her to drink alcohol and when intoxicated, took her to a roadside shelter where the crime occurred.

After the assault, Lokesh fled, but the video helped police locate the woman, who then filed a formal complaint. Based on her statement and the video, Lokesh was apprehended.

The case has sparked a political uproar, with the opposition Congress criticising the ruling BJP for the state’s deteriorating law and order.

Madhya Pradesh Congress posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the BJP government of failing to protect women.
