Human Brains Become More Active Moments Before Death: Neuroscientists

Michigan: The mysteries of death and what happens before, during, and after a person dies have long confounded human thought. Numerous studies and trials have looked into how death affects a person’s body and mind.

Currently, a study has generated preliminary evidence of elevated brain activity during the dying process, which may be related to consciousness.

Two people’s brains showed an upsurge in activity as they neared death, according to US researchers from the University of Michigan. Similar spikes in brain activity had previously been seen in animals whose hearts had stopped beating, and this phenomenon is similar to those.

Researchers looked at four people who passed away while having their EEGs monitored due to substantial brain haemorrhage and anoxic injury brought on by cardiac arrest.

Two of these individuals experienced an increase in gamma wave activity linked to consciousness when the ventilator support was turned off. This activity was shown to be occurring in the “hot zone” of the brain, which is associated with dreaming and altered states of consciousness.

Scientists from Michigan discovered that gamma oscillations became more neurophysiologically coupled and connected in the dying human brain.
