ISRO makes history, launches its first small satellite from Sriharikota

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Sunday created history by launching its first small satellite launch vehicle SSLV-D1 from Sriharikota in Andra Pradesh. SSLV-D1 also launched the 750 student-built satellites ‘Azadi Satellite’ and Earth Observation Satellite-02 (EOS-02).

The launch was reported to be successful. The rocket functioned properly and delivered the satellite to its intended orbit. However, it has been reported that the signal from the satellite has stopped. ISRO Chief S Somnath said that ISRO Mission Control Centre is continuously trying to get the data link; we will inform everyone as soon as link is found. EOS02 is an Earth Observation satellite that will operate in space for 10 months. It weighs 142kg and has a medium and long wavelength Wi-Fi camera. With a resolution of 6 meters, it can monitor water even in night, apart from SpaceKids India, the space agency’s student satellite Azadisat has also been launched.
