Bollywood or Bolly’Weed’?

Mumbai: Drug cases are quite common in Bollywood for a very long time. A few months back, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) took Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan into custody over a drug case investigation, after a raid on a cruise in Mumbai.

Many celebrities have been called in for questioning in the past in similar cases, and Bollywood’s history with drugs is not a newfangled thing. Here are some of the well-known celebrities who were a part of drug controversies over the years:

Sanjay Dutt 

Sanjay Dutt’s history with drugs is known to all and he has been open about it in many interviews as well.

The actor admitted to trying every new drug available, and he called the phase a living ‘Hell’. However, he later came clean and managed to stay clean. Before the 1993 bomb blast case, Sanjay Dutt spent five months in jail in 1982 after being caught in the possession of illegal substances.

Fardeen Khan 

Fardeen Khan’s career in Bollywood wasn’t too long, as he went completely off the grid after a while. The actor was constantly called out for being overweight suddenly too.

Fardeen was arrested in a drug case in 2001 as 9gm of cocaine was found on him. He then underwent a detoxification course.

He is now set to make a comeback in the industry and was seen in ‘Visfot’ along with Riteish Deshmukh.

Mamta Kulkarni 

Mamta Kulkarni was a famous actress back in the 90s, but even she has had her fair share of drug cases.

She was booked for drug trafficking in 2014 and was arrested by the Kenya police with her husband Vicky Goswami and Indian national Kulam Hussein.

As per reports, drugs worth Rs 2,000 Crore was confiscated at the time of the raid.

Bharti Singh

Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa were also called in for questioning this year by the NCB as they recovered drugs from their residence. They also confessed to consuming cannabis.

The NCB said, “In follow-up and in corroboration with previous inputs, NCB raided two places on 21.11.2020 including the production office and house of actor-comedian Ms. Bharti Singh and from both places, 86.5 gms of ganja was recovered. Both Ms. Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiya accepted the consumption of ganja. Ms. Bharti Singh was placed under arrest as per the provisions of NDPS Act 1986 and examination of Shri Harsh Limbachiya is underway.”

Aryan Khan 

Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested in connection with the Mumbai cruise drugs case early in October.

Aryan Khan was arrested on October 3 in connection with a drugs raid conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau. Helmed by zonal director Sameer Wankhede, the NCBs Mumbai unit raided a cruise ship off the city coast. Aryan Khan, along with several others, was arrested and accused of consumption and conspiracy, among other charges.

More than eight months after he was arrested along with some others, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) gave a clean chit to Aryan Khan, due to lack of ‘sufficient evidence against him in the drugs-on-cruise case.
