Mumbai: Bollywood actress Rimi Sen has filed a ₹50 crore lawsuit against car manufacturer Land Rover, alleging persistent issues with her vehicle. Sen, who purchased the car for ₹92 lakh in 2020, accuses the company of mental harassment due to repeated repair problems.
The vehicle, bought from Satish Motors Pvt. Ltd., an authorised Jaguar Land Rover dealer, was under warranty until January 2023. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, Sen did not use the car extensively until the restrictions were lifted. Upon resuming use, she reportedly faced several defects, including issues with the sunroof, sound system and rear-end camera.
According to her complaint, on August 25, 2022, a malfunctioning rear-end camera caused a collision with a pillar. Despite multiple notifications to the dealers, Sen alleges they were unresponsive and demanded evidence before addressing her concerns. This led to repeated repair attempts, each resolving one issue but causing new problems to arise.
Sen claims the car is defective both in manufacturing and maintenance. Despite over ten repair attempts, the vehicle remains faulty, causing significant mental distress and inconvenience.
Sen has sought ₹50 crore in compensation for mental harassment, ₹10 lakh for legal expenses and a replacement for the defective car.
