Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will return for a 2nd Season

Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ is all set to return for a second season on Netflix.

This was announced in a grand way, on Monday, with 100 dancers, dressed in costumes similar to the outfits worn by the show’s characters, performing at Carter Road, Mumbai.

“Mehfil phir se jamegi, Heeramandi: Season 2 jo aa raha hai,” the streamer wrote on X alongside a one-minute-24-second long video of the flash mob performance.

Heeramandi has become the most-watched Indian series on Netflix worldwide. It is at No. 1 on India’s Top 10 chart since its premiere.

Set against the backdrop of Lahore in the 1940s, the first season of Heeramandi delves into the lives of courtesans who reside in Heeramandi.

The next season will follow the journey of its characters after the partition of India in 1947. “In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. So that’s the second season we are planning, let’s see where it goes,” Bhansali told American magazine Variety.
