Orissa High Court Stays NBW Issued Against Anubhav Mohanty in Domestic Violence Case

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday stayed the execution of a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued against actor-politician Anubhav Mohanty by the Cuttack special JMFC court.

The warrant was issued due to Anubhav’s repeated non-appearance for framing of charges related to the domestic violence case.

Anubhav, who is also a politician, had failed to appear before the court citing personal reasons, prompting the lower court to issue the NBW. The execution of the warrant was directed to be carried out by May 23.

Varsha had filed a complaint against Anubhav in December 2020, alleging that he had locked her in a room in his house in Nandi Sahi. This led to the registration of a case against him under Sections 498A, 341, and 506 of the IPC.

It’s noteworthy that Anubhav and Varsha were granted a divorce decree in February this year, ending their ten-year marriage. Initially, the Family Court had rejected Anubhav’s divorce petition, but the Orissa High Court overturned this decision upon hearing Anubhav’s petition challenging the verdict.

Anubhav had cited Varsha’s refusal for consummation of their marriage and alleged mental cruelty as grounds for divorce, stating that her conduct towards him and his family members had caused significant distress.
