‘Tumbbad 2’ Announced; Sohum Shah Drops Teaser

Mumbai: Actor Sohum Shah on Saturday declared the making of a sequel to his 2018 folk horror movie Tumbbad.

He also dropped a teaser of the upcoming sequel.

The teaser begins with a shot of the main characters, Vinayak Rao (Sohum) and his son Pandurang (Mohammad Samad). “Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega… darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega,” Sohum says in a voiceover.

The teaser ends with, “Pralay, pralay phir aayega.” hinting at a looming disaster in the upcoming film.

Tumbbad 2 was announced by the makers at the end of the film’s re-run in theatres on Friday.

The first film came out in 2018. Due to its niche plot, Tumbbad failed to do well at the box office. After its re-release in theatres on Friday, the film surpassed its original box office collection and had an opening of around Rs 1.50 crore nett in India.

Tumbbad became the first Indian film to screen at the critics’ week section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival.
