New Delhi: A young male who recently returned from a country with ongoing Mpox (monkeypox) transmission has been identified as a suspected case of the virus, according to the Union Health Ministry. The patient has been placed in isolation at a designated hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Health officials confirmed that samples have been collected and are currently undergoing tests to verify the presence of Mpox. The ministry assured that the case was being managed following established protocols and contact tracing efforts were underway to track potential exposures.
“The case is consistent with previous risk assessments by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),” stated the ministry. “There is no need for undue concern, as the country is well-prepared to handle isolated cases of travel-related Mpox.”
This suspected case in India comes three weeks after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox outbreaks in 12 African nations a global emergency.
