265 Bihar Special Armed Police Trainees Fall Ill Due to Suspected Food Poisoning

Patna: Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) trainees staged a protest over food poisoning in Supaul training centre on Monday when 265 of them became ill with symptoms of suspected food poisoning.

Over 900 agitating trainees took up dharna on the training grounds refusing to take food. They alleged that the pesticide aluminium phosphide used to protect food grains from pests got mixed with their food at the mess. The protest continued from 8am to 2pm and was called off after BSAP northern zone deputy inspector general (DIG) Shafiul Haque met the trainees and assured them of a probe and better facilities.

On Sunday, the trainees ate poori, jalebi and stewed chana masala for breakfast. After having breakfast, several of them suffered dizziness, stomach ache and nausea. Many started to vomit.

Many of them were rushed to Birpur subdivisional hospital. They were discharged on Monday.
