Tamil Nadu Plans to Shut Down 275 Liquor Shops Following Public Complaints

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government is planning to close down 275 Tasmac liquor outlets following complaints from people regarding disturbances created because of these liquor shops.

The state excise department has deputed officials to take up detail studies on the complaints against each outlet.

Tamil Nadu had 4789 Tasmac liquor outlets. Following similar complaints from the public, 500 of them were shut down in recent past. After these closures, there are 4,289 Tasmac liquor outlets in the state.

The shutting down of 500 liquor shops enthused anti-liquor lobby, who now seek to shut down 275 more liquor outlets.
