At Least 31 Dead In Thailand Mass Shooting

Bangkok: A former police officer in a mass shooting and gun attack, opened fire at a pre-school child daycare centre in a Northeastern province of Thailand on Thursday, killing at least 31 people, many of them children, a police official said. The victims comprised children and adults and a manhunt was being conducted for the gunman, an ex-police officer, the police statement read.

After the attack in Nong Bua Lamphu, the shooter is still on the run. Police said that the perpetrator shot and stabbed both adults and children. However, it’s unclear why the attack occurred.

According to a government official, the prime minister has instructed all agencies to take action and find the offender.

Although Thailand has a high percentage of licensed gun ownership compared to other nations in the region, enormous quantities of illegal firearms, many of which have been imported over the years from war-torn neighbours across porous borders, are not included in official statistics.
