Bangladesh Recalls Indian Envoy in Major Diplomatic Reshuffle

Bangladesh’s interim government has resorted to a major diplomatic reshuffle. It has recalled five envoys, including the ambassador to India.

The interim government in Bangladesh is headed Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus after weeks of violent protests forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign on August 5 and escape to India.

The foreign ministry of Bangladesh has ordered envoys in Brussels, Canberra, Lisbon, New Delhi and the permanent mission to the United Nations in New York to immediately return to the capital, Dhaka, stated reports quoting an Bangladeshi official, who preferred to remain anonymous.

The diplomats were directed by the interim government to hand over their responsibilities immediately and return. Earlier, Saida Muna Tasneem, the high commissioner to Britain was also asked to return to Dhaka in similar manner.
