British Man Charged Rs 32 Lakh For A 6.5 Kilometre Ride By Uber

Manchester: A British man was shocked to discover that Uber had intended to charge him over $39,317 around 32 lakh when converted to Indian Rupees for just a 15-minute ride when he checked his bank account, according to reports in the media.

After working at the Buxton Inn in Manchester, England, the man, identified as, Oliver Kaplan a chef by profession, recently used the ride-share app to make a car request. Kaplan had planned to meet his friends at Witchwood, a bar located six odd KMs away.

“I ordered an Uber like I do most nights on the way home from work and everything seemed normal.”, Kaplan was quoted saying to a local media.

Additionally, he asserted and was graciously granted that the app cost between $11 and $12, which is roughly around 900 and 1000 Rupees.

Until he got a message from Uber the following morning, he had forgotten about the incident.

“When I woke up hungover the next morning, the last thing I expected was a charge of over £35,000 ($39,317),” he further said.

Mr. Kaplan quickly used the app to contact Uber’s customer service team to ask about the inflated bill. He claimed that the reason why the money couldn’t be accepted was because he didn’t have enough money. He also claimed that Uber staff members were first perplexed by the amount.

Later, engineers at the company discovered that Australia had been substituted for the original drop-off location. The cause of the error is unknown, but it’s assumed that a glitch caused the venue to change from Witchwood, the Manchester bar, to Witchwood, a park in Victoria, Australia.
